It seems that a couple of people were seen by the media buying toilet paper and mentioned they wanted to be prepared for confinement during the coronavirus outbreak. The news hit the TV and ignited the stampede.
With that and other stupid things that are happening eg, the Professor who said we should all kill ourselves so the world would be a better place (perhaps she should have led by example), and the imams in Indonesia who said that the coronavirus was allah's revenge for people eating pork, although there are probably hundreds of inflicted who haven't eaten pork, I wanted to know how mass hysteria occurs.
My question was answered by someone smarter than me:
https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/health-problems/science-behind-why-australians-are-panic-buying-toilet-paper/news-story/ab4f8d40b0fbf1b255fcd2cccee3ae1a
Now, I'm worried about running out of toilet paper, as to buy it might mean people thinking I'm one of the intellectually vacant buying it to prepare for a virus.
